Reflections in Sciacca

A couple weeks ago, I was walking through the artistic streets of sciacca, looking for a piece of art to hang onto our blank wall baack home. There were a lot of beautiful art pieces, yet mostly similar, until we came across the one shop that immediately struck us as different. We went in and marveled at the uniqueness of this artists' art. Quirky shapes of animals , human faces, and colourful canvases, leaving room to wander and perceive whatever it is that makes sense to you. Intrigued, we ask him where he gets his inspiration from. Purely from in here, he says, pointing at his head. He goes on to explain how he goes through phases. Sometimes he paints more, at one point he would mainly focus on human faces and human anatomy, until he got bored of that and changed things up a bit, experimenting with other techniques and styles. Other times, he just focuses on making ceramic pieces. Some big, some small, some full of colour, others left untouched in their rawest form. Reflecting on that, it's a great example of the power of listening to your inner-self, rather than trying to fit in and create the mainstream things that everyone else is making and selling. I believe there's uniqueness in all of us, if we just give it space to come out without being too worried about conforming to the norm or doing what others are doing. Everyone notices when something is different, authentic. It stands out, and naturally attracts the eye. It vibrates on a different frequency, and it can be felt.
